You often heard women complaining about their weight, facial hair (Hirsutism) or pimples on the face. This is all because of hormonal imbalance. And this hormonal imbalance is responsible for the collection of fluid in the ovaries and later on fails to release eggs regularly. A medical condition that has the potential to change women’s lives and PCOS is the perfect example.
Health experts say that 1 out of 10 women have PCOS and the worst part is that more than 50% of women don’t even know what they have. Most of the girls find this syndrome after marriage or when they are trying to conceive. A survey reports that an average woman consults at least 5 different practitioners before they even get diagnosed.
Women having PCOS have irregular or no menstrual cycle, easy weight gain, thinning hair on the scalp and the list goes on. These symptoms lead to depression and affect a lot on a daily routine, especially if you are married. Every month you count days for the menstrual cycle, and habitually it doesn’t come out on the date and then slightly build up hope in the deep of your heart that maybe this time that stubborn, pompous tiny entity meets the needful, deprived tadpole but all hope gone with a single blob. Every time PCOS patients have to deal with this situation. It’s very easy to say don’t take the stress, be hopeful, it is the only way you would conceive. But I must say, sometimes the word ‘don’t’ is the one who actually causes depression and anxiety.
I assume the unnerving part of having PCOS are the ’experienced’ people around you who don’t fully understand the condition. And give free advice like ‘lose your weight is the only thing that would help’ or ‘you cannot get pregnant having this rare syndrome’. Seriously?? FYI, if you really think PCOS is a rare condition; I must say you have to study this deeply. 1 out of 3 women suffering from PCOS in the subcontinent which is quite alarming. Whatever the reason is but PCOS is a no rarer syndrome.
One thing for sure is having a baby is a blessing but that shouldn’t be the ultimate goal. The important thing is to live healthily. PCOS is an exhausting thing to deal with. It negatively affects you mentally as well as physically but it’s possible to manage. There are several ways which can be effective like a healthy and balanced diet with both physical and mental exercise. Engage yourself in some activity that diverts your attention in a constructive way. Don’t whine or act like a victim. Nothing happens overnight, things changes gradually. Realization of this fact would be the biggest step you take till then live your life to the fullest.
